the Battlefleet Gothic area of the Epic Lounge.
I've only gotten into BFG recently so this is all pretty new to me. With
only a few games of experience I'm still a pretty green Admiral so bear
with me.
Like so many others I've started out by colllecting the Imperial and Chaos fleets found in the BFG boxed set. I'm doing them in the standard "Codex" colours with a slight twist. The Chaos fleet is reddish and the Imperial fleet greenish. However I think that the colours used in the GW Studio's fleets are much too bright. I imagine the ships masive and dusty -you just don't go and give a 5 km. long cruiser a new paint job if it gets a few scratches. Instead I'm aiming for a paler look.
For the Imperial fleet
this means a black basecoat followed by drybrushes of first Catachan Green
then Vile Green and finally Rotting Flesh highlights.
The Chaos fleet will also start with a black undercoat followed by a coat
of Scab red or Scortched brown. Then I drybrush Teracotta and finallly
Bleached Bone. The result is some pretty nice pale colours with a rich
contrast.
Both fleets will of course get the "standard" details of gold
trimmings and of course white prows for most of the Imperial ships.
I know these fleets aren't exactly tournament legal but then again nobody is saying that all ships will be used at the same time nor that you ever have to follow Tournament lists -in fact I think it's a lot more fun to make up stuff for yourself and buy the models you actually like!
As you may have noticed the lists contain a number of vessels not described in the BFG rule books. Many of the ships -the Imperial in particular- are somewhat converted or scratch built. These include the Dreadnought, Pocket Battleships, Battlecruisers, Sleipner Escort Carriers and the Chaos Degradation Battleship. Notes and suggested stats will be added next to these ships accordingly.
