When The Emperor re-discovered his greatest Primarch Horus, he was given command of the Lunar Wolves Space Marine Legion. Horus' remarkable skills as both soldier, tactician and strategist quickly lead the Lunar Wolves to become the greatest of all the Space Marine Legions. When The Emperor granted Horus the title of Warmaster of the Imperium his Legion changed its name to The Sons of Horus in his honour. During countless campaigns across a thousand worlds the Sons of Horus came to regard their Warmaster with the fiercest of loyalty so when disaster struck, and Horus was corrupted by Chaos, the Sons never questioned their leader's decision to campaign against the distant Emperor.
During the Heresy the legion fought with a ferocity equalled by none in a battle which took them right to the gates of the Emperor's throne room on Terra. Following the Warmaster's unexpected defeat the shocked Sons of Horus brought the corpse of their beloved Warmaster with them across the galaxy to the Eye of Terror. As a sign of their mourning they painted their armour black and for the second time changed their name to "The Balck Legion".

The basic colourscheme of the Black legion is obviously black. To get a nice colour I started by spraying the models black. Over this I then added a drybrush of Black/Lightning blue mix. The colour is very similar to Shadow grey so you can substitute with that if you want.. I then continued to add lightning blue to the mix to tip of with some relatively sharp highlights. The final highlights are pure lightning blue/white mixes. This produces a cleaner, more "shiny" looking black than one that actually has a neutral grey for the highlights. Shoulderpads were trimmed with gold and various bits were marked out with bleached bone and red.

Following the defeat of Horus the Warmaster's second in command Abaddon quickly rose to power. It was Abaddon who succeeded in uniting the rivalling Chaos Factions under his banner and launched the 13th Black Crusade to recapture the Cadian Gate and gain foothold in the material universe. Black Legion Land Raiders, Black Legion Predators

The Black Legion Armoured company is equiped with very old machines form the time of the Great Crusade. From a modeller's perspective this meant using old style Bubble turret Predators and even the original mk1 metal Land Raiders from the old Adeptus Titanicus days.

Black Legion Rhinos

I wanted my Black Legion to be the one of my Chaos Space Marine armies which resembled a loyalist Marine chapter closest. This meant that all infantry should be transported in Rhinos for instance. I haven't done too much mutations to these units as I felt the Black Legion should be relatively normal looking. This is because they haven't alligned themselved to any particular Chaos God who would otherwise warp the equipment.

The Defiler is another creation from the dark
forges deep within the Eye of Terror.
Essentially it is a larger version of a Dreadnought possessed by a Daemon of the Warp. Defilers make an excellent addition to
a footslogging warband of Chaos Space Marnies where it provides not only a mobile heavy weapons platform but also a
formidable close combat unit.

Many people have been tinkering with converting Defilers for their Chaos armies. The problem building a 6mmm scale version is that there are no obvious models to scavenge for parts. Wraeththuu/Audrey has made the best attempt so far but unfortunately her converison involve a lot of hard to get parts. When I decided to do my own version I decided that I only wanted to use parts which were relatively easy to come by. The legs and claws are the biggest problem. I based mine on the old plastic Imperial Dreadnought which had a suitable size. I then added some pieces of triangular plasticard for the "feet" blades. For the claws I had to build everything from scratch. This is by far the most tricky part of the conversion. The best advice I can give, is to start by sandwiching 3 triangles of plasticard together. I then cut those to shape and added various trimmings from thin strips of plasticard.
The turret is made from a plastic Rhino which has been reduced to about a quarter the size. I then added the main gun from a bit of plastic tube and sculpted the daemon face on from Green Stuff. The top of a Dreadnought was added to the body to finish it of though you could skip that if you prefer.

The Decimator is an early precursor of the Shadowsword Super Heavy Tank. It is big and cumbersome but it's huge main gun is a valuable addition to any Chaos army.
Again a scratch building project. Many of the Decimators I've seen so far have been based either on Forge World Super Heavies or by gluing two plastic mk1 Land Raiders together.
When Jervis made the original drafts for the Black Legion army list he described the proposed model for the Decimator as sort of a "steam punked WW1 mk1 Tank with lotsa spikes on it". I liked that idea so I thought I'd go for a look along those lines. Obviously the Land Raider is a good place to start because of the way the tracks look. However I still thought that simply gluing two of those together looked too small. In the end I decided to glue no less that 4 of them together to produce a model the same size as a Forge World Super Heavy tank but with a significantly different appearance. I also added a lot of rivets and spikes to make it look less like 4 land Raiders. I admit the final result looks a lot like an upsized Thunderer Siege tank but oh well...

Perhaps one of the strangest weapons devised in Abaddons armouries is the Death Wheel. As the name suggests it is essentially a huge tracked wheel with guns on it.
It is a very fast and deadly weapon which is capable of moving through terrain where normal scout titans would be in trouble.
This is another conversion inspired by Wraeththuu/Audrey's work. What I find really attractive about this converion is its simplicity and how effective it still is. Again Audrey has used a number of parts which aren't that easy to get hold of so my version is based purely on bits from the Chaos Spikey Bitz spure. To build a Death Wheel you'll need two 40mm. Round Slottabases, tracks form the Imperial Tracks spure, two hatch coupolas and hatches, two daemonic gun muzzles, two smoke launchers, two spikey rings form the Chaos Spikey bitz spure and finally two Ork Twin Autocannon turrets from the E40k Battlewagons spure.
Construction is pretty straightforward and you could add more detail if you want such as Void Shield Generators or Daemonic mutation made from Green Stuff.
