Tzeentch is the Lord of Change, and the God of Magic. Among his followers are some of the most potent psykers in the universe. One of these psykers were Magnus the Red, Primarch of the Thousand Sons Space Marine Legion.
Before the Heresy Magnus was experimenting with arcane magic. Despite the warnings of the Emperor Magnus was slowly slipping further and further into the grasp of Tzeentch. Only when it was too late di Magnus realize his mistake but by then the Heresy was allready well on the way. The homeworld of the Thousand Sons were destroyed by the Space Wolves and Magnus was forced to escape into the Warp. His Marine Legion fled into the Eye of Terror where their sould became the slaves of the Lord of Change.
Ahriman, one of the most powerfull Sorcerors of the Thousand Sons, learnt the secrets to set his brother marines' souls free and cast a powerfull spell known as the Rubric of Ahriman. The cursed Legion was finally free but their armour and vehicles, still held together by powerfull magic, continue to serve Tzeentch as empty shells filed only with the dusty remains of their former inhabitants.

The Thousand Sons are again the weird mix of regular Spacemarines and Chaos Marines for the varied mutated look which is
particularly suitable for Tzeentch. When I made this legion I was running out of Chaos Space Marines so I began to cut off the Marine riders from the Discs of Tzeentch (who also have a nice headgear) and also Juggernaut riders and Chao Squat torsoes attatched to regular marine legs.
I undercoated my marines black and drybrushed them Regal Blue. The highlights were done with a Regal Blue/Lightning Blue mix which produces a nice rich deep blue tone. The Original Thousand Sons have a Blue/Yellow colourscheme but that has allways looked a bit too Sweedish to me (no offence to Swedes ;-). Instead I painted them Burnished Gold and also added Bleached Bone on various helmets and pieces of cloth. Again it was a matter of doing it a bit random to give the army a suitably chaotic feel.

Magnus the Red has never been a particular favourite model of mine. Partly because of the way the Studio army model was painted, partly because the model itself is pretty disproportionate: The arm holding the scepter is way too long. I shortened the arm a bit and painted mine slightly differntly.
The wings were originally painted in all the colours of the rainbow which allways reminded me of a popsickle! I decided to paint mine more like real feathers which also produced a nice goolden colour too contrast with the blue.
The original beard was also very bright red -almost orange- so I toned it down a bit and simply painted mine scab red with a black wash. The overall result is a slightly darker model but less messy I think.

Older Epic players may remember an article in the Citadel Journal describing rules for the Warp Palace of Tzeentch.
Similar to the Lord off Battles and the Plague Tower, the Warp Palace is a construction inhabited by the essence of a Greater Daemon. In the article the Studdio had used a model from the Man'O'War range to represent the palace.
To be honest I allways found the miniature to be pretty boring compared to the Plague Tower and Lord Of Battles so I set out to construct my own -bigger- version.
The model is based on a 40 mm. reound Slotta base. The nice thing about it is, that it has holes on the underside which are easy to fit the peg on a Flying base into. The Palace itself is a made form various bits and bobs from model aircraft kits and Green Stuff. The two side towers are actually drop tanks.
The finished model was painted similarly to the Thousand Sons but to add a bit more detail I painted a bunch of glyphs and lightning sparks.
Silver Towers The Silver Towers of Tzeentch are an unnerveing sight on the battlefield. The silent elegant towers float through the air while raining a silent death of Warpfire upon the enemy.

After a while I grew tired of the Warp Palace model I'd made. I felt my skills has increased enough to have another stab at this model so I decided to build something that was more in style with the Silver Towers. I've reused many of the bits for the first Warp Palace but supplemented with some Imperator Titan towers and a Silver Tower top. The Tower disc itself is sculpted from Miliput with pieces of guitar string to match the design of the Siler Towers but at a larger scale..

Many of the servants of Tzeentch possess the gift of flight to some extent. The strange Daemonic flyers of Tzeentch are no exception. The Firelord is a large Bomber. Nobody knows for sure if the machine is piloted by a traditional crew, possessed by a Daemon or perhaps even guided by the hand of the Lord of Change himself. However it is certain that every time the scream of it's mighty engines are heard Imperial soldiers run for cover from it's deadly payload of Firestorm bombs and warpfire thrower.
The Doomwing is a smaller interceptor. As deadly and manouverable as an Eldar fighter these machines are a dreaded throughout the sectors near the Eye of Terror.

At first I hated these models. For the same reason I didn't buy any when they were readily available in the old SM/TL days. However the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it was more the Studio paint job for their Tzeentch army I disliked. Generally speaking I've never liked the Blue/Yellow colourscheme of the old Thousand Sons. But: replace the yellow with gold and suddenly everything looks much better I think

Mightiest among the Daemonic servants of Tzeentch are the Lords of Change. The Greater Daemons are among the most powerfull psykers in the galaxy. Their knowledge of arcane magic far supasses that of the Space marine Librairans or Eldar Warlocks for the Changer of ways is not bound by the limitations of these races and empowers his followers with many strange and forbidden teachings.

As with all lesser Daemons the Flamers of Tzeentch come in many different sizes and forms. The Flamer has a strange etheric body almost transparent in appearance and only held together by the raw magic power of Tzeentch. Extending from the body is two arm like limbs which spew magical fire.

Finally with all the other Chaos Gods getting their own Titan, I also thought my Tzeentch force needed one, Instead of using a Beetleback Warlord like the others I decided to go for a Mk2 chassis. This had the advantage of a squareish carapace which would fit well with the slightly egyptian theme I had planned. Since it was Tzeentch I had an opportunity to go over the top with weird additions so I decided to add a handfull of Tyranid Genestealer arms mixed in with some Flamer tentacles for a nice and gibbly feel. It may be a bit over the top, but hey, this is Chaos...
