The Divisio Investigatus

One of the less known branches of the Adeptus Titanicus is the Divisio Investigatus. Where the Divisio Militaris is the military arm of the organisation the Divisio Investigatus is a research and weapons development branch. The Divisio operates a small number of modified titans of all classes on which they test recovered STC and other weapon systems not commonly in service in the rest of the Imperial Army. As such the Divisio is constantly under the strict supervision of the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Inquisition to avoid any taint by xenos influence or sacrilege of Imperial technology.
This said the Divisio is still allowed to do modifications to Imperial equipment which other branches of the Imperial armed forces would be prohibited from. In that respect they are granted much the same privileges as the Centurio Ordinatus. Titan chassis are often stripped down to allow the fitting of more weapons systems, larger (or multiple) reactors and all sorts of other strange devices which need to be tested and evaluated for the Imperial war effort.
Warlord titans are particularly favoured for this purpose as these titans carry a sufficiently large reactor to power most weapon systems while still being small enough to allow modifications to be completed within a reasonable amount of years.

Although the Divisio Investigatus do have access to firing ranges and other extensive testing facilities the general consensus is that field-testing is the best trial for new weaponry. Single Divisio Investigatus titans are sometimes sent out in support of Imperial forces in less critical sectors. Although the titans usually perform without incidents few commanders are willing to risk their battle plan on a titan with strange weapon systems nobody have ever heard of before (Titans blowing up in the middle of your deployment zone has a nasty tendency of disrupting even the most well thought out plans...). The Divisio Investigatus titans are then usually deployed to the rear of the battle line where they provide additional fire support and, in case something goes wrong, don’t cause too much damage to friendly forces.

Much of the armour has been stripped off to make room for an extra plasma reactor. This provides the titan with the much bigger power supply needed to feed the many experimental weapon systems.
The current weapons configuration allows for a tactical missile to be mounted on one shoulder and an Adeptus Mechanicus standard issue Servo Crane on the other. The Servo crane is a large robotic arm that feature a powerful claw and two high-powered fusion cannons very similar to Laser Burners. The crane is usually used in heavy-duty construction and repair work but is sometimes fitted to titans to make special Titan recovery vehicles. If the conditions demand it the crane can also be used as an offensive weapon as the huge hydraulic claw and fusion burners make a fearsome close combat weapon. The burners also have a limited ranged capability although their effectiveness as a weapon quickly dissipates over distance.
The arm weapons have been extended from the body to minimize damage to the titan body in case of weapon malfunction.

Building this particular titan was a lot of fun. I think I picked up an extra set of Warlord titan legs in some E-bay auction so I has to figure out what to do with them. Since the entire upper part of the titan needed to be rebuilt from scratch I thought I might as well try and go for a look which was completely different from your average Warlord titan. What better solution than to build a Divisio Investigatus titan then?

The main body is actaully part of the turret from a Baal Predator with the carapace constructed from more Baal bitz as well as the rear ramps from a Mega Gargant. I added a bunch of "techy" looking gadgets from various tank kits as well as a couple of purity seals to give this machine a suitably weird and experimental look.
The big servo crane is also from the Mega Gargant with a couple of cut down machine guns from a 1:32 tank kit stuck on the sides.
The head is just a standard plastic warlord head with the lower jaw removed and replaced with a bundle of guitar strings. This was inspired by some illustration of an Adeptus Mechanicus Tech Priest I saw somewhere.
The original model also featured a dome like sensor structure on the back but unfortunately that broke off before I had a chance to paint the model. If I find it it might be added later on.
